Spider-Man 2 is the 2004 live-action Sony Pictures Entertainment feature film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is a direct sequel to Spider-Man and the third film in the first Spider-Man film series.
The movie finds Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) trying to live up to his responsibilities of being a super-hero, at the cost of his personal relationships with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) and Harry Osborn (James Franco). He meets Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) a nuclear scientist who becomes a mentor of sorts, before suffering a catastrophic lab accident. Now, Octavius' lab harness equipped with four artificially intelligent tentacles is fused to him permanently. Further their AI minds have a direct link to his, causing a shift in his character. He's now stealing to fund further iterations of he dangerous experiments.
Sam Raimi returned to direct the sequel from a script by Alvin Sargent. The film scored well with fans and critics alike and is considered by some to be the best Spider-Man movie to date. It also did great at the box office, breaking a number of records. It was followed by Spider-Man 3.
