The Rocketeer (1991 Film): Theatrical Release

The Rocketeer is the 1991 feature film adaptation of the comic book series created by Dave Stevens.

Billy Campbell stars as Cliff Secord, a stunt pilot in the 1930s who comes into possession of a rocket pack designed by Hoard Hughes. Movie star Neville Sinclaire (Timothy Dalton) is a rival for the affections of Cliff's girl, Jenny Blake (Jennifer Connelly) an aspiring actress. He's also a Nazi spy eager to claim the rocket pack and sell it to the bad guys.

The movie was directed by Joe Johnston (who later directed Captain America: The First Avenger) from a script by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo (who were known for bringing The Flash to TV a year earlier).

The film is well-loved by critics and fans, but was a box office disappointment, pulling middling returns. The Rocketeer franchise lay dormant for decades until Disney restarted it with the 2019 animated series, that finds Kit Secord, a present-day descendant of Cliff, taking on the identity.
