Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a 2017 Nickelodeon animated TV series based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.
The series presents a minor reimagining of the TMNT as the characters now bear weapons with mystical properties that amplify certain abilities above their ninja training from Master Splinter (voiced by Eric Bauza). Raph (Omar Benson Miller) has tonfa batons that contain "red energy" which makes him super strong and later discovers mystic sais which allow him to duplicate himself. Leo (Ben Schwartz) has a sword that can open space-spanning portals but later adopts a katana which allows direct teleportation. Mikey (Brandon Mychal Smith) wields a kursari-fundo chain that unleashes a fire spirit but eventually claims his traditional nunchaku which have seemingly limitless reach. Donnie (Josh Brener) invents robotic sidekicks and uses a high-tech bo-staff that can morph into a variety of weapons.
The show was developed for Nickelodeon by Andy Suriano and Ant Ward. So far it has run two seasons for a total of 39 episodes.
