Oldboy is the 2003 live-action feature film based on the manga Old Boy by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi.
Businessman Oh Dae-su is mysteriously abducted and held prisoner for fifteen years. Just as mysteriously he is released back into the world. He embarks on a journey to discover who did this to him and get revenge on his captors.
Park Chan-wook (Parasite) directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Jun-hyung Lim and Jo-Yun Wang.
The film was initially released in South Korea and became the highest-grossing movie of the year. It was later released in foreign markets, including the United States, where it continued to succeed at the box office, accumulate critical acclaim and become a bona fide cult classic.
The movie was remade in the United States in 2013.
