Men in Black 3 is the 2012 Sony Pictures Entertainment live-action feature film, based on the Malibu Comics title of the same name, created by Lowell Cunningham. It is a sequel to Men In Black II and the third film in the first Men in Black film series.
The film finds Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) tracking escaped alien criminal Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement). Boris has an axe to grind with K who, in 1969, captured him, shot off his arm and installed a global shield that prevented Boris' species from invading Earth. When Boris jumps back in time and kills K. J follows to try to prevent the murder and teams up with young K (Josh Brolin) to stop Boris and make sure the planetary defense is deployed as planned.
As with the previous installments, Men in Black 3 is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Etan Cohen wrote the script.
Emma Thompson joins the cast as the new MiB chief O. Michael Sthulbarg, Mike Colter, Alice Eve, Bill Hader and Will Arnett also appear.
The critical reception for the film was on par with previous entries. It was did the lowest box office numbers in the U.S. of the initial trilogy, but enjoyed the highest worldwide box office of the franchise to date.
