The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is 20th Century Fox's 2003 adaptation of the comics of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill.
Set in 1899, the movie stars Sean Connery as Allan Quatermain (the character featured in the adventure novels of H. Rider Haggard), who is tasked by the British Empire to track down the terroristic criminal The Fantom (based on the villain of French pulp novels Fantomas). Quatermain recruits a crew of adventurers plucked from the pages of classic literature: Captain Nemo (played by Naseeruddin Shah, from Jules Verne's books), Mina Harker (played by Peta Wilson, from Bram Stoker's Dracula) Rodney Skinner (played by Tony Curran, based on H.G. Wells' The Invisible Man), Dorin Gray (played by Stuart Townsend, from the novel by Oscar Wilde), Tom Sawyer (played by Shane West from the books by Mark Twain) and Dr. Henry Jekyll (played by Jason Flemyng, from the novella b Robert Louis Stevenson).
The film was directed by Steven Norrington from a script by James Dale Robinson. The movie was not well received by critics and did not fare well at the box office.
