Jonah Hex is the 2010 live-action Warner Bros. feature film adaptation of the DC Comics character of the same name.
Josh Brolin stars as Jonah Hex, a principled Confederate solider who is attacked by his commanding officer Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich) and his enforcer Burke (Michael Fassbender) after refusing to follow a criminal order. They kill his wife and son and leave Hex to die with horrific burns on his face. Hex is saved by a Native American shaman who leaves the cowboy with supernatural abilities. Aided by Lilha Black (Megan Fox), Hex's path leads him back to Turnbull to square the feud once and for all.
The movie is directed by Jimmy Hayward, fresh off his successful directing debut on the animated feature Horton Hears a Who. It's from a script initially written by the writer director duo of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor who had recently delivered the surprise hit Crank. William Farmer also worked on the script.
Other cast members include Will Arnett, Michael Shannon, Wes Bentley, Aidan Quinn and Lance Riddick.
In spit of the impressive cast and pedigree of the filmmakers, the movie was a full-on train wreck, garnering terrible reviews for critics, weak performance at the box office and a complete shunning by fandom. Any plans for sequels were promptly abandoned.
