Hellboy II: The Golden Army is the 2008 Universal Pictures live-action feature film based on the Dark Horse Comics title created by Mike Mignola. It is a direct sequel to Hellboy and the second film in the first Hellboy film series.
Hellboy (Ron Perlman) is reminded of stories told to him by Professor Bruttenholm (John Hurt) about the ancient war between humans and magical creatures. The Elven King Balor manages to defeat humanity with an army of mechanical men, but realizing war leads only to suffering he offers a truce and destroys the crown that commands the Golden Army. In present day, his son Nuada (Luke Goss) seeks to reassemble the crown and restore power to his people.
Hellboy, along with B.P.R.D. members Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) and new recruit Johann Krauss (Seth MacFarlane) team with Nuada's sister, Nuala (Anna Watson) to stop the elf Prince from resurrecting the army and destroying the world. Jeffrey Tambor also returns as Tom Manning.
Guillermo del Toro directs this second outing from his own script. The film was well-liked by critics and did better at the box office than its predecessor. Although there was talk of a sequel it never materialized.
