Ghost in the Shell is DreamWorks Pictures' 2017 live-action feature film based on the manga series of the same name created by Masamune Shirow.
Scarlett Johansson stars as Major, a living weapon serving the counter-terrorism unit Section 9, a division of Hanka Robotics who built her. She begins experiencing glitches, which appear to be memories of her life before she was rebuilt as a cybernetic being. Her pursuit of a violent cyber-terrorist named Kuze (Michael Pitt) forces her to confront her current counter-terrorism mission and unravel the mystery of her former life. The film also stars Takeshi Kitano, Pilou Asbaek, Juliette Binoche and Peter Ferdinando.
Rupert Sanders directed from a script by Jamie Moss, William Sheeler and Ehren Kruger.
The movie performed poorly with both critics and audiences, with a weak showing at the box office, and middling reviews.
