The Flash is the 2014 live-action TV series airing on The CW and based on the DC Comics character of the same name.
The show stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry’s life changes forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator explodes, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that strikes Barry, bestowing him with super-speed and making him the fastest man alive — The Flash. Barry is initially supported by S.T.A.R. Labs' preeminent scientist Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) and researchers Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) and Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker). Of course, Wells is not who he seems and is instead flash villain Eobard Thawne.
At the same time Barry grapples with his unrequited love for Iris West (Candice Patton) and his struggle to free his father (John Wesley Shipp) who has been wrongly convicted of killing his mother. Also cast is Jesse L. Martin as Barry's surrogate father, and Iris' actual father Detective Joe West.
Season one of the show is highly regarded for its unapologetic embrace of Superhero fantasy, while mixing it with strong emotional connections for the character.
The series is set in the so-called Arrowverse with the characters frequently crossing over with the Arrow series.
