Constantine is the 2005 Warner Bros. live-action film based on the DC/Vertigo comics series of the same name.
Francis Lawrence made his directing debut on the film. Keanu Reeves stars as an Americanized version of the character.
Based on the DC Comics character created by Alan Moore, Stephen Bissette, Rick Veitch and John Totleben, Constantine is recast as an American occult investigator who is struggling to outrun damnation to hell by battling demons on Earth. In the film he aids Detective Angel Dodson (Rachel Weisz) in solving her sister's death. The plot finds them running afoul of Lucifer himself (Peter Stromare). Shia LeBeouf, Tilda Swinton and Djimon Hounsou also appear.
The movie was a non-starter with critics with an unimpressive box office that closed the door on sequels, until 2022 when the studio began talks of a revisitation with Constantine 2
