Captain America: The Winter Soldier is Marvel Studios' 2014 sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger.
Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America (Chris Evans), is now an active agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and still struggling to adjust to modern world. He's drawn into conflict with a mysterious Russian assassin known as the "Winter Solider" who assassinates S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) who had attempted to hand over data about a growing threat inside the agency. Aided by Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Rogers seeks to unravel the mystery of the threat inside the agency and bring down the Winter Solider, who he discovers is his World War 2 era friend and partner "Bucky" Barnes (Sebastian Stan), who has somehow avoided aging just as he has.
The movie also adds Anthony Mackie to the cast as Sam Wilson, a.k.a. The Falcon, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, Emily VanCamp as agent Sharon Carter, Frank Grill as Crossbones and Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce.
Captain America: The Winter Solider was box-office hit and considered by many to be one of the best Marvel films.
It was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who went on to command three more of Marvel's most successful movies: Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
