Annie is the 1999 direct-to-video adaptation of the 1997 Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn is adapted from the classic comic strips of Harold gray.
This made for TV movie casts Samantha Morton as the optimistic orphan who lands in the care of Daddy Warbucks (Victor Garber) while trying to escape the clutches of the scheming Miss Hannigan (Kathy Bates). The movie also features Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth and Audra McDonald.
The film was directed by Rob Marshall who went on to direct well-regarded musical features like Chicago, Nine and Into the Wood. It's the second of three adaptations of the stage musical, with theatrical films being released in 1982 and 2014 with the same name.
