Blue Beetle is the 2023 Warner Bros. live-action feature film based on the DC Comics character of the same name, specifically the Jaime Reyes version created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner.
Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) is set to star as Reyes.
Bruna Marquezine is cast in the female lead. Susan Sarandon is reportedly playing the film's villain, with the name given as Victoria Kord. Raoul Trujillo (Mayans MC) is playing Carapax, the Indestructible Man.
Also cast are Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) and Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Stories).
Jaime Reyes is the third character in comics to operate as Blue Beetle. The original version (created for the publisher Charlton Comics who later sold their library to DC Comics) was called Dan Garrett who was empowered by a mystical scarab. Through various comics storylines Garrett lost control of the Scarab and it eventually found its way to El Paso, Texas where it bonded with the teenaged Reyes. The Scarab is revealed to not be, in fact, a mystical Egyptian artifact but instead a piece of technology from an alien race.
Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) is directing the film from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Scarface). John Rickard is producing. Zev Forman is executive producing.
