Director Zack Snyder announced on twitter that a 4k Ultra HD release of his breakout comic-book adaptation 300 is due out October 6. The tweet offered no other details but featured a nice motion-poster rendering of the 4K packaging art. The tweet was also posted by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
Here's a better look at the full artwork. The release is available for pre-order on various outlets.
300 is the feature film adaptation of the Dark Horse Comics series by Frank Miller.
Based on historic events, the movie is a fantasized version of the real-life Battle of Thermopylae during the Persian Wars in which 300 Spartans made a stand against the marching armies of king Xerxes. Gerard Butler and Lena Headey star as King Leonidas and Queen Gorgo. Rodrigo Santoro plays Xerxes. Dominic West also appears.
The movie is most noteworthy for director Zack Snyder's visual style, which aimed to recreate the exact look and feel of Miller's artwork as faithfully as possible. It was followed by 300: Rise of an Empire.
