Carving a pumpkin is not that easy. First you have to find the right sized pumpkin so that the pattern will fit.
First, remove the stem and remove the guts so that you can place a candle or flashlight inside once the pattern is complete and ready to go.
Next, you want to make sure the pattern is completely flat up against the pumpkin or else you might get creases and wrinkles that won’t create a straight line when poking holes or when carving with a knife.
Once the pattern is applied, make sure to poke holes along the lines in order to create an easier cut for the knife or mini-saw. As you begin to carve, be careful of thin edges that can accidentally be cut that can cause the pumpkin to cave in on itself. When this happens, you will essentially have to start from scratch!
Next place your candle or flashlight inside to light up your jack-o-lantern (or in this case, a “bat-o-lantern” and get ready to impress the neighbors!
